Single and ready to mingle! As you grow older, you will realise that dipping your toes in the dating pool gets harder each year. Not that you get less desirable as your age, but rather the time spent on finding the right partner gets more and more tiring. However, this shouldn’t stop you from searching for ‘the one’ - that’s if you are open to a relationship - and there are many options available out there. The easiest way? Dating apps!
Of course, there are hits and misses when it comes to putting your profile out there and chatting with a stranger based on his or her photos and bio, but if you don’t start, you’ll never progress. However, please be mindful of the people you are swiping right and be careful when you go out on dates! Choose somewhere public for your first date and text your family member or friends on the location so that you know there’s someone out there looking out for you.
Online Profile Tips
For someone who has been on some of these apps listed - some of which I am still actively on - let’s just say there are some ways to make your profile more attractive.
1) Put some effort in your dating bio
Sure, it may seem a little unnatural or narcissistic to praise yourself or analyse your personality into a few words. Know that the more information you give about yourself, the clearer it says about you and people are more willing to connect with someone who is as open as them. A half-finished profile or the go-to ‘dog-lover’ does not do you justice. It just shows your laziness. And please, I do not need to know your personality type ‘INFP/ENTJ, etc’.
2) ‘Hi’ is not enough
So, let’s say both of you have swiped right on each other and want to start a conversation. Instead of just a simple ‘Hi’, add something else in the conversation. Perhaps talking about her hiking photo or a hobby that he listed. It’s nice to know that someone has read your profile and is interested in knowing who you are.
3) Photo of your face
Please, at least 1 photo with a face isn’t too much to ask. I have seen photos of your holiday trips (great, adventurous type!) to you sitting at a beach or mountain (romantic…?). Those are perfect attributes but if your face is as small as an ant in all of those photos with your back facing the camera, I simply can’t connect with you. Am I dating the sun or you?
Now that you are ready, check out these dating apps that you can download and start your journey to BTO!
